Install the Learning Agent
The Learning Agent captures redacted coding-agent turns and sends closed sessions to the Itera Learning engine. Use 0.4.4, the current learner release. You do not need a repository checkout or GitHub access.
Prerequisites
Section titled “Prerequisites”- Node.js 22 or later and npm.
- Claude Code or Codex on the machine that runs your sessions.
- Your own DFL account for shipment. The local monitor needs no login.
Set up the learner login once:
npm install -g @devfellowship/dfl-authdfl-auth loginThe shipper reads the login from ~/.dfl-mcp/credentials.json.
Keep that file private.
Install the agent
Section titled “Install the agent”Close Claude Code, Claude Desktop Code sessions, and Codex. Then run:
npx --yes --registry=https://registry.npmjs.org --@iterahq:registry=https://registry.npmjs.org @iterahq/learning-agent@latest updateRequire UPDATED version=0.4.4.
This command also upgrades an existing installation.
The registry options bypass an existing GitHub Packages scope.
It preserves the spool, journal, shipped ledger, credentials, and consent rules.
The npm package installs normally on Windows. It does not require --force.
Install each integration that you use:
itera-learning install claude-codeitera-learning install codexYou can install only one of them. The installer preserves unrelated Claude Code settings and Codex TOML content. On the first Codex launch, review and trust the three Itera hooks. Codex does not run new hooks until you trust them. Windows uses the packaged Node.js hooks. It does not require Bash or another POSIX shell.
For later releases, use the shorter update command:
itera-learning updateSee the dedicated update guide for recovery and hook-refresh behavior.
Verify the installation
Section titled “Verify the installation”Check the local commands:
itera-learning helpitera-learning pathsitera-learning consent verifyThen verify one fresh session.
That check proves the hooks, SessionEnd, version 2 capture, agent output, and engine acknowledgement.
Local monitor
Section titled “Local monitor”Start the packaged local web app:
itera-learning monitorOpen http://127.0.0.1:5173.
The server binds only to 127.0.0.1.
The Ship journal shows 50 rows per page, and the browser retains only the selected page.
Coverage
Section titled “Coverage”| Surface | Status |

| Claude Code CLI | Supported on Windows, macOS, and Linux. |
| Claude Desktop Code tab | Uses the Claude Code hooks on Windows and macOS. |
